Elegance meets rock ‘n roll during event

WHITE ROCK HOME TOUR

By Alyson Black

Mark your calendars to see some of the most beautiful, and unique, homes in the  area. The 14th annual White Rock Home Tour is on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28 from noon-5 p.m. Since 2006, the White Rock Home Tour (WRHT) has showcased mid-century modern and contemporary modern homes to benefit DISD’s Hexter Elementary. One hundred percent of proceeds from the WRHT go to Hexter Elementary students and teachers.

The 2018 WRHT raised $61,400 (that’s after expenses) for students and teachers at Hexter. It’s a great event for a great cause. Discount tickets on sale now for $15 each at whiterockhometour.org. Each of the tour homes offers something unique for guests.

The remodeling crowd will love the Lake Highlands Place home, with its budget-friendly price tag, and its recent master bathroom renovation. MCM purist hipsters will L-O-V-E the Capri home (and its owners) with its minimalist design that lets the home speak for itself.

This house, 10033 E. Lake Highlands Drive, was built in 1965 and is a 2,465 sq. feet, 3-bedroom, 3-bath home. Bathroom renovation in 2018 was done by Watkins Remodeling. Photos courtesy of WRHT

Expect jaws to as drop visitors enter the homes on beautiful Forest Trail — hard to believe just a few years ago this beautiful setting was a construction waste dump!

These two homes are unique — that’s why they are on the tour this year. New Leaf Custom Homes is providing a shuttle for our guests since there’s no parking on the street. The Loving Ave. home in Lakewood is the picture of modern elegance and rock-n-roll, peppered with pieces from the homeowner’s extensive world travels as senior vice president of AT&T. Architects and fans of architects will be inspired how A. GRUPPO’s Thad Reeves designed the Trammel home in a challenging location. This home is a must-see on the tour. Finally, long-time friend of the tour, architect Cliff Welch and his builder Clay Robinson have welcomed WRHT guests inside their work-in-progress on East Lake Highlands to check out this amazing new modern built around a pool in the front. Guests get the chance to meet Cliff and Clay during the tour and see a display of renderings of the finished home.

This event is rain or shine.

This home at 8034 Forest Trail was built in 2013 by architect/builder New Leaf Custom Homes. It is 6,087 sq. feet, has seven bedrooms, five baths and three half-baths.
