Dallas United Crew (DUC) novices returned to the shores of Festival Beach Park to race in the Heart of Texas Regatta on February 29 and March 1. At half the standard sprint distance, unrelenting intensity is the hallmark of races on the Heart of Texas’ seven-lane 1,000-meter course.
Crews from Oklahoma City to Houston traveled to Lady Bird Lake to face off in head-to-head competition. Horn blasts sounded in cadence as the top three boats in the Women’s Junior Novice 4+ crossed the finish with DUC earning silver as they crossed the finish 4.4 seconds off Parati and were trailed by OKC Riversport by 4.7 seconds.
The Men’s Junior Novice 8+ race was tighter between the top two boats, as DUC finished a mere 3.2 seconds off Texas Rowing Center to earn silver. Third place Parati trailed significantly – over eight seconds off DUC’s time.
Held annually, the Heart of Texas Regatta is a USRowing registered regatta and one of the nation’s first sprint races each spring.
