FIRST SIGHT ascends to next level

Every year, an ensemble of fashion, art and opera patrons goes on an exclusive tour together to sip, shop and support The Dallas Opera.

The Dallas Opera FIRST SIGHT Chair Joyce Goss hosted the group of 50 guests to the annual Sip and Style Stroll at NorthPark Center last Wednesday, May 9. The event is to announce the The Dallas Opera’s FIRST SIGHT’s fashion house partnership for their Fall fashion show event.

Guests enjoyed a selection of drinks and light fare curated by Lombardi’s throughout the tour. They made three stops at select boutiques and received a guided tour of the many art exhibits between each stop.

The tour began at the Bvlgari where guests received a preview of jewels and learned of its designs inspired by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra. Outside Bvlgari, a world premiere art sculpture called The Diffracted Symphony by Sebastien Leon is on display.

NorthPark Manager of Arts Programming Taylor Zakarin shared with the group that the site-specific sound sculpture is inspired by the rib cage of a whale washed ashore.

The sculpture is made of steel pipes, steel base on casters, electronic audio system, wires and vegetation. The sculpture plays an altered version of Verdi’s Requiem as a funeral mass for the biological state of the world. The recording used is of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s 2014 performance conducted by Jaap van Zweden.

The group moved on to their second stop at Burberry for more sips, bites and shopping.  After a drawing for a scarf, the group headed to the surprise fashion house partner. The last stop on the tour took them to CH Carolina Herrera.

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce that The Dallas Opera will be partnering with the extraordinary CH Carolina Herrera brand to enable FIRST SIGHT, which in a few short years has become a firmly-established fashion institution in Dallas, to ascend to the next level,” said Goss.

Goss is the executive director of The Goss-Michael Foundation and a leading philanthropist and activist in the art world. She also serves in executive positions as a board member and chair of key events for many local nonprofit organizations.

“I am deeply grateful to Nancy Nasher and our presenting sponsor, NorthPark Center; to Bulgari, our jewelry sponsor; to Burberry; and to CH Carolina Herrera for their enthusiastic support of this evening’s announcement event.”

The Dallas Opera’s FIRST SIGHT Fashion Show and Luncheon is a prelude event to The Dallas Opera’s 2018-19 Season. It takes place on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center (2403 Flora St., Dallas, TX 75201).
