Lakewoodstock is back for home tour

By Hillary Stonger

Woodstock is coming to Lakewood! The 2021 Lakewood Home Festival Auction Party theme was unveiled at the Lakewood Fourth of July parade. Lakewood Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association (LECPTA) Auction Party Chairs and their families cruised down Lakewood Boulevard in classic cars from the Woodstock era, including a 1967 Jeep Kaiser M715 and a 1973 Volkswagen Bus. The crowds joined in song and threw up peace signs as the bus blared hits from artists Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix and more.

The “LAKEWOODSTOCK” Auction Party, sponsored by Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, kicks off the 45th Annual Lakewood Home Festival weekend. The Home Festival, sponsored by Comerica Bank, is hosted by the LECPTA and has raised funds since 1976 for East Dallas public schools, including Lakewood Elementary School, J.L. Long Middle School, Woodrow Wilson High School and other feeder pattern schools.

This year’s Auction Party will open its doors on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Marie Gabrielle Restaurant & Gardens, located in the Harwood District. This 1.5-acre garden oasis will set the perfect hippie vibe for an evening featuring live and silent auctions, trendy food stations and Woodstock-era tunes — all in plenty of space for guests to move and groove both indoors and outdoors. Get your groove on under a canopy of trees and twinkling lights while donning your favorite festival duds (think flower crowns, fringe vests and bell bottoms) and let your spirit fly free at this can’t-be-missed comeback party!

“After a challenging 2020, we could not be more excited to celebrate under a theme of unity, peace and togetherness,” said Shannon McKie, 2021 LECPTA president. “Our community has always done an exceptional job of supporting each other. Seeing how it banded together during such turbulent times has been remarkable and I know the sentiment will be embraced even more as guests prepare to celebrate during Home Festival weekend.”

The Candlelight Tour, sponsored by The Live Local Group, will take place on Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m and offer an intimate setting for guests to sip wine and meet the homeowners. Candlelight Tour tickets are $30 and include access to the daytime Home Tour as well. Home Tour Festival tickets can be upgraded to Candlelight Tour tickets at the door for $10. For $75, join the VIP Candlelight Tour for a special reception at 5 p.m., sponsored by Comerica Bank, followed by a private bus tour of the festival homes, sponsored by Joe Atkins Realty.

All tour tickets give access to view six beautiful homes in the Lakewood area. A sure-to-be crowd pleaser is 6921 Westlake Drive. Featuring original stained glass windows, crown molding and a Rookwood fireplace, 6921 Westlake Drive is an original Dines & Kraft Building Company home. Business partners and developers Albert Dines and Lee R. Kraft were instrumental in the development of the Lakewood neighborhood.
