Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the 24th Annual Long Run is back. The certified 5K and 1K Family Fun Run and Walk starts and finishes at Willis C. Winters Park (previously known as Randall Park — across the street from Woodrow Wilson High School) located at 100 S. Glasgow Drive in Historic East Dallas. After the races, join runners, student groups, parents, families and community members for food, refreshments and entertainment at one of the oldest and most established races in East Dallas. Proceeds from the fundraiser bridge critical gaps in the J.L. Long Middle School budget. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, April 14 with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. Television host Amy Vanderoef will serve as event emcee. DJ Jennifer Miller will be DJing the event. The 5K Certified Run, beginning at 6:30 p.m., takes full advantage of the beautiful Santa Fe Trail, then winds its way through the picturesque neighborhoods in Old East Dallas. Each entrant will receive a race t-shirt and dinner. In addition, awards will be given for the fastest runners in the various age groups. Registration is just $25 per runner. This includes entry fee, race t-shirt and dinner. Registration and information is at jllongpta.com. — Amy Rayburn
