Mockingbird Station (MBS) is celebrating the end of summer with an event perfect for the August heat. The MBS Summer Wave event is on Saturday, Aug. 20, and will include day and nighttime festivities filled with several fun outdoor activities spread throughout Mockingbird Station. To kick things off, the daytime portion of the event will take place from 1-7 p.m., where Dallasites can partake in a variety of life-sized yard games including Jenga, Connect Four, Chess and Checkers. For those who haven’t been able to escape to the beach this summer, Mockingbird Station is bringing the waves to Dallas. Attendees can test their surf skills on the Big Wave Surf Machine Simulator and pretend they are surfing into the sunset or slide down the 27-foot-tall Purple Crush Waterslide to cool off. To escape the sun, patrons can pop into one of Mockingbird Station’s various eateries to grab a bite or a beverage or stroll through one of the many popular shopping retailers. To wind things down and finalize the MBS Summer Wave event festivities, Mockingbird Station has partnered with Angelika Film Center to showcase an outdoor pop-up movie screening on the second level of The Station featuring “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Starting at 8 p.m., guests can relax and cozy up with snacks and enjoy the film, making the perfect end to an action-packed day. — Vaughn McLeod
