Students benefit from Exchange Club funds

The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands has presented 57 scholarship awards to graduating seniors at Lake Highlands High School. The awards totaled $153,000 and were presented at a club breakfast on May 10. These awards are made on an annual basis and have been given since 1971. To date, more than $2,500,000 in awards have been provided by the club. Funds for these awards come from club fundraising events and from area individual award sponsors and contributors. Awards are given for academic achievement, working students and for memorial recognitions. This year, club Scholarship Director Paul Elkjer chaired a committee of 10 club members who reviewed applications, conducted personal interviews and made final selections. The Exchange Club currently has 160 members and meets each Friday at 7 a.m. at the KayCee Club on Shoreview. Membership information is at lhexchangeclub.org.              — Don Lee
