Troop 43 to present newest Eagle Scouts

By Stephanie Snyder

On January 29 Troop 43 will recognize three East Dallas boys — Logan Auld, Samuel Loh and Alexander Snyder — who have earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement, the Eagle Scout Award. Only six percent of all BSA members attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project to earn his Eagle.

These three boys are just the latest Eagle Scouts from Troop 43, which recognized the achievements of nine Eagle Scouts in 2021, according to Scoutmaster Steve Ramos. As the pandemic limited or changed many of the teen’s regular activities, they had more time to focus on community service.

Logan Auld’s Eagle service project was building a fence to beautify the garden at St. Joseph’s Residence Center in Oak Cliff. Auld (16) is a sophomore in the computer science magnet at Richardson High School where he also plays baseball. He has been involved in Scouts with Pack 43 and then Troop 43 since first grade.

Samuel Loh chose to focus his service project on our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic grade school in Dallas. He raised money to buy school uniform shoes for the students and worked on the school grounds to clean and paint areas that were in disrepair. Samuel (14) is a freshman at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas. He is active in cross country, track and field, Freshman Initiative training program and is a photographer for the school yearbook. Samuel followed his two older brothers in becoming an Eagle Scout and is the son of Peter and Christine Loh.

For his Eagle service project, Alexander Snyder built garden benches for the St. Joseph’s Residence Center in Oak Cliff, so residents could enjoy the outdoors while the pandemic limited their activities. Snyder (15) is a sophomore at Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted, where he is active in orchestra, robotics and coding competitions. Outside of school, he studies karate at Chamberlain Studios in Lakewood, learns Chinese and plays violin and flute. He is the son of Tom and Stephanie Snyder.

Troop 43 of the Boy Scouts of America was established by the St. Thomas Aquinas Dad’s Club in 1948 and has continually served the young men in East Dallas for more than 70 years.

Troop 43 Eagle Scouts Class of 2021 includes Jacob Meyer, Beckett Polma, Henry Limber, Jacob Moler, Matthew Polak, Mitch Holter, Logan Auld, Alexander Snyder and Samuel Loh.

The Boy Scouts of America provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develops personal fitness. For more than a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and, through more than a century of experience, knows that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible and productive society.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. While a Life Scout, a Scout plans, develops and gives leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or the community. In addition to providing service and fulfilling the part of the Scout Oath “to help other people at all times,” one of the primary purposes of the Eagle Scout service project is to demonstrate or hone, or to learn and develop leadership skills.
