Woodies dedicated to benevolence

By Juliana Mitchell

The Woodies is a well-known group on the CC Young campus that has significantly contributed to the organization and the community through their carved creations. Most recently, they hand carved a beautiful wooden sculpture to commemorate the special centennial anniversary of CC Young. This commemorative project serves as a representation of the service and care CC Young has provided for the past 100 years.

The Woodies participate in various projects and fundraisers to support CC Young’s Benevolence Fund, which serves as a safety net for residents today who outlive their savings and financial resources. Their work is featured in various retail outlets in the Dallas area, including the CC Young gift shop. They also make items for fundraising events, including the annual Wrap It Up Luncheon held each November. In addition, the Woodies often assist residents and staff with repairs and mini projects around campus, such as building shelving for the residential buildings. Donations received for their work all benefit the Benevolence Fund. The Woodies also built the cross, podium and communion table in the chapel on the campus.
