Memories of year one, day one

By Nancy Black

I thought it would be fun to revisit the past as I ponder the future. White Rock Lake Weekly is going into our 11th year serving the community.

My, how time flies!

My children were so much smaller, and I was so much younger. I decided to dig out my very first editorial from Vol. 1, No. 1 of White Rock Lake Weekly, which we published on June 19, 2009. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. I had to scan the original hard copy because the digital file is long-since locked away on an external hard drive buried deep in some storage box.

So much has changed during the past 10 years*, but one thing hasn’t — the residents’ and neighbors’ dedication to the community we live in. I am constantly amazed by the goodwill and kindness people in East Dallas have for their fellow humans. And animals, too! East Dallasites LOVE their animals!

It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve the White Rock Lake community. Here’s to the next 10 years!

* Notice there is no more “The” White Rock Lake Weekly. It is just White Rock Lake Weekly. Always has been. I just goofed up editing that first issue of my own newspaper. Oh, well. Live and learn, which I hope I do.
