Turner leads new row camps

Local rowing club White Rock Rowing (WRR) — the only Dallas rowing crew to hold multiple national youth championship trophies (2014, 2021) — announces the addition of another highly accomplished rowing coach to their staff. After nearly a decade coaching championship winning teams in Florida, Duwyane Turner (pictured) is White Rock Rowing’s new recreational middle school and masters coach.

As the previous assistant coach of the Sarasota Crew, Coach Turner brings a wealth of experience and passion for developing athletes of all ages. In Florida, he introduced novice rowers to the sport, teaching them technique, proper boat safety and goal-setting discipline. During his time there, the program saw a significant number of junior rowers quickly improve their skillset and rise to varsity level to win several championships.

While at the Stewards Foundation in Tampa, he served as an assistant coach developing training plans, fostering team culture and leading community outreach efforts.

“From the moment Duwyane Turner arrived at White Rock Rowing, we have seen how his passion for rowing and his unique coaching style builds great sportsmanship. He’s the perfect coach to continue growing our middle school and master programs. White Rock Rowing is lucky to have him — he is dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential,” said Sue Ellen Chambers, president and board chair of White Rock Boathouse, Inc., the nonprofit that operates White Rock Rowing. Coach Turner will be leading White Rock Rowing’s Learn to Row camps for middle school and high school students who are new to the sport starting June 19.
