Fall is in the air, and District 3 has been celebrating with homecomings, championship victories and, as always, academic innovation and excellence!

Recognizing extraordinary athletes

It has been an incredible month for our District 3 athletes. Congratulations to Bryan Adams High School Leadership Academy’s Wesley Pyffer, who was a regional qualifier for Cross Country this year, and the only one from Dallas ISD! Wesley finished 66th out of 178 runners! 

Raising Awareness and Support for Homeless Youth

November is Homeless Youth Awareness Month, and the district’s Homeless Education Program (HEP) is working hard to help families and students in this situation connect with vital resources like food, counseling, transportation, uniforms and much more. Throughout this month, HEP is hosting multiple events to raise community awareness and funds to help students and families in need. Legacy of Excellence: The Inauguration of the Elsie Moreno Softball Complex

Last month, before the big Bryan Adams football homecoming game against R.L. Turner, some former students and friends of Elsie Moreno gathered to celebrate her achievements. Elsie, who graduated from Kimball High School in 1969, was part of the Bryan Adams school community. She worked there as a teacher and coach from 1977 to 1997, and in 1992, she became the first female athletic coordinator at the school.

During her time as a coach, her volleyball teams won three district championships, and her soccer teams were district champions every year from 1983 to 1995, with three of them making it to the regional finals. She held this position until 1997 when she became an assistant athletic director for the Dallas ISD. In March 2023, she was honored by being inducted into the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame. Elsie started her career at Lincoln High School in 1973 and played a significant role in creating the softball facility at the Forester Athletic Complex.

Now, to recognize her contributions, they’ve named the three softball fields there the “Elsie Moreno Softball Complex.” Congratulations, Elsie!
