Annual contest full of talent, appreciation

The Spirit is Ageless Awards ceremony was held this past week in a standing room only auditorium at The Point on the CC Young Senior Living campus on White Rock Lake. In its 24th year, the awards named two recipients for its “Ageless Creativity” award, which honors the most senior artist of the exhibition. Both Anita Hullum (pictured above with her family) and Hellen Hillbush completed their SIA entries at age 99, but only Anita was honored at the ceremony Friday as Helen had passed in between the awards being announced in September and the ceremony last week. Her spirit was honored during the touching ceremony. When walking through the exhibit, it’s clear that something beautiful has emerged in this annual contest and, while some did receive honors and recognitions for their submission, everyone who participated clearly was a winner, including those who didn’t contribute anything but their presence and appreciation. — Michelle Metzger
