“As we look back on 45 years of this franchise, it is a great honor to recognize one of our legends,” said Dallas Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont. “Mark’s legacy as a foundational player is defined by excellence, determination and commitment. We are proud to pay tribute to his profound impact on this organization by retiring his jersey and immortalizing his legacy as one of the Mavericks’ greats.”

As the Mavericks’ first-ever #1 draft pick, Aguirre played a total of eight seasons (1981-89) with Dallas in his 13-year NBA career.

In 566 total games with the Mavs, he averaged 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, while shooting .492 from the field.

Among Mavericks career leaders, Aguirre ranks third in multiple categories, including points (13,930), points per game (24.6), 30-point games (160), field goals made (5,441), free throws made (2,815) and offensive rebounds (1,259). He also ranks fifth among franchise leaders in career starts (527), seventh in total rebounds (3,244) and minutes played (19,154), and 10th in steals (502).

Aguirre, who owns the Mavericks rookie record for points in a game (42), also holds the franchise record for field goals made in a single season (925 in 1983-84) and a single quarter (11). He has scored the second-most points in a single season (2,330 in 1983-84) in franchise history and produced the second-most career 40-point efforts (22). Aguirre is also one of two Mavericks to record consecutive 40-point games.

All fans in attendance for the Jan. 29 jersey retirement game will receive Aguirre memorabilia, including his exclusive Hardwood Classic bobblehead, special t-shirts and fan clappers.
