Ham radio operators from the White Rock Lake Amateur Radio will be taking part in a national amateur radio exercise from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday June 28 at Dreyfuss Point at White Rock Lake. The event is ARRL Field Day (arrl.org/field-day), an annual ham radio activity held each June since 1933. The public is invited to stop by and observe as the club will demonstrate several radio setups using portable equipment and antennas, while making radio contacts across the country. Hams from across North America take part in Field Day by setting up temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate their skill and service. Their use of radio signals, which reach beyond borders, bring people together while providing essential communication in the service of communities. There are more than 750,000 amateur radio licensees in the United States, and an estimated three million worldwide. The White Rock Lake Amateur Radio Club, call sign WA5WRL, was founded in 2019, with a mission to enable east Dallas and lake area neighborhoods to intercommunicate in case of an emergency. The group has since grown to more than 30 members representing virtually all East Dallas and lake area neighborhoods. To find out more about the club, visit wa5wrl.org. — Rich Casey
