Art joins books for show

Libraries are increasingly serving as cultural gathering spaces where people can discover local artists in an approachable, everyday setting. Someone who might never walk into a commercial gallery can stumble upon original artwork while visiting their neighborhood library.

In that spirit, Art on Main presents Salon Style – Small Works Exhibition by Art on Main Artists, on view at the Lakewood Branch Library from July 10 through Sept. 19. An artist reception is on Thursday, July 23, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Inspired by the grand European salons of the 17th and 18th centuries, the exhibition embraces the tradition of salon-style hanging, where artwork is displayed from floor to ceiling rather than in a single row. The result is a visually engaging experience that encourages visitors to linger, make discoveries and appreciate the relationships between works created by different artists.

Featuring paintings, mixed media, photography, and more, Salon Style showcases the talent and diversity of Art on Main’s East Dallas artist community.

Participating artists include Andrea Lamarsaude, Brooke Aston, Candice Lindsay, Émilie Lamarsaude, Emily Lamberty, Jacque Forsher, Karen Jacobi, Laurie Mahoney, Monica Cowsert, Natalie Lammers, Pam-ela Harrelson, Sheila Cunningham, VET and Yesenia Mejia Urieta.

While each artwork tells its own unique story, together they create a vibrant portrait of the creative energy flourishing in East Dallas today. Visitors are invited to slow down, explore every corner of the exhibition, and discover unexpected connections between artists, ideas, colors and mediums.

All artwork is available for purchase, providing an opportunity to support local artists while bringing original artwork home. Lakewood Branch Library is located at 6121 Worth St. in Dallas.
