Nativity stories and carols can always be heard again and, this year, the updated Pastorela program of last year finds the Orchestra of New Spain (ONS) in the magnificent Neo Gothic National Cathedral Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Invited by Rector Jesus Belmontes to present a Catholic Christmas story to parishioners and public alike, the ONS rose to the challenge. Singers and musicians from the Orchestra of New Spain present “La Pastorela,” on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. This staged production depicts the Nativity story as told through the eyes of Mexican villagers as they follow the star of Bethlehem. The dramatized and costumed telling brings to life repertory of Spain and Latin America through moving 17th and 18th century villancicos, providing a unique Spanish language Christmas program of compelling music and colorful characters. The event is at Guadalupe Cathedral in the Arts District (2215 Ross Ave., Dallas 75201). Tickets $5 at the door or at Ticketdfw.com.
