Celebration race helps fund new playground

The sun has set on the 10th annual Celebration! White Rock and it was a great success! More than 900 people signed up for the 5k, 10k run and party, presented by the White Rock Lake Conservancy (WRLC). The event, held on the shores of White Rock Lake, had great food, drinks and music from the Jay London Band. The first-place winners in 5k, 10k, men and women and masters will have their names engraved on a stone and placed at the lake in the organization’s Pave the Way area. All but one raffle winner was in attendance, and all were super excited about their winnings. WRLC volunteers thanked those who donated and bought tickets; the raffle alone raised $9,085. WRLC are still tabulating proceeds from the event but hope to have reached more than $70,000, which will go toward the new playground in the Stone Tables area. — Jennifer Hoesterey
