Competition open to all

Applications are now being accepted for The Dallas Opera’s biennial National Vocal Competition, which showcases the talents of young singers aspiring to professional careers in opera. The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 3. The competition is open to residents of all 50 states and U.S. territories. Applicants must be United States citizens or have the right to work in the U.S. There are no age restrictions for participation.

Applicants must submit references and performance videos; specifications are noted in the application form. Finalists, announced in January 2024, will be invited to perform with The Dallas Opera Orchestra for the final round of the Competition, which will be held in Dallas at the Winspear Opera House on March 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. The competition will award $10,000 for the grand prize, $5,000 to second place, $2,500 to third place, as determined by a live panel of distinguished judges. A $1,000 prize is given to the People’s Choice winner. The annual People’s Choice Award is bestowed on the audience favorite, determined by a digital vote following the final contestant’s performance.
