Dallas ISD Board of Trustees Dan Micciche, District 3

A new year, a lasting legacy

As we begin a new year, I am reminded that every January offers not just a fresh start, but an opportunity to reflect on the legacy we are actively shaping in District 3.

The turn of the calendar invites us to consider how the choices we make today become the foundation on which future students, families and educators will continue to build.

Legacy is not created in a single moment. It is formed through consistent dedication, shared values and the belief that every child deserves the chance to fulfill their potential. Already this school year, we have seen countless examples of this commitment across our campuses. Our strong Texas Education Agency ratings and recent Children at Risk recognitions reflect the hard work happening in every classroom and highlight the progress our students and educators continue to make.

As you settle into the semester, I encourage you to approach each assignment, project and opportunity with purpose. A new year means new chances to set goals, push boundaries and write the next chapter. Every challenge embraced and every milestone achieved becomes part of the legacy you carry forward.

Our educators remain central to this mission. Their thoughtful planning, innovative practices and steadfast support help students start the year strong and stay focused on what matters most — their learning. The dedication our teachers bring into the classroom each day is a testament to the enduring legacy of excellence that defines District 3.

Families, your partnership continues to strengthen this foundation. Your encouragement at home, your engagement in school events and your trust in our district all help create a supportive environment where students thrive. Thank you for being such an integral part of our collective work.

Students around District 3 are already reaping the benefits of this hard work. I want to congratulate each and every senior who has already received full-ride scholarships to their select colleges and universities. From Northeastern University to Middlebury College, our students are ready for their next chapter.

As we look ahead, I am excited for the progress the spring semester will bring. Whether through academic growth, extracurricular achievements or new district initiatives, I know that District 3 will continue to shine. Let us carry forward the momentum of the past year with renewed energy, purpose and pride in the legacy we are creating together.

A key part of shaping that legacy is ensuring every student has access to opportunities that align with their interests and aspirations. Families interested in exploring specialty schools and programs still have time to apply. The deadline to submit applications is January 31.
