Legacy in motion

Legacy may begin with those who came before us, but it grows stronger through the commitment, courage and countless hours of hard work our students invest in every day.

At Bryan Adams High School Leadership Academy, that legacy of excellence is alive and growing through the Belles and the DanceVersity Hip Hop Crew. These students balance academic responsibilities with demanding rehearsal schedules, long competition days and the discipline required to compete at the highest levels. Their success is the result of perseverance, teamwork and a shared belief that they represent District 3 with pride.

Throughout the year, the Bryan Adams Belles, led by Amy Solorio, competed in three major competitions and delivered standout performances at each one. They earned the highest possible Division I rating at the Texas Dance Educators Association Field Assessment, significantly improving their scores from the previous year while competing against teams statewide.

In February, the Belles continued to demonstrate excellence, earning grand champion titles, top category finishes and high overall placements at two respected regional competitions. In one event, they finished second overall in the entire contest — competing neck-and-neck with teams that train extensively outside of school — and outscored top competitors in key routines. Their officer team also captured major honors, and Lizeth H., captain of the team, earned a Division I recognition for her solo performance.

The Bryan Adams DanceVersity Hip Hop Crew, led by Brianna Palos, also made an impressive mark at the Synergy Performing Arts Competition. Despite losing a full week of rehearsal time due to winter weather back in January, these students showed resilience and focus, earning the competition’s top award, a first-place overall finish, and additional judges’ recognition for their creativity and performance quality. Their ability to adapt under pressure reflects the character and discipline that define true excellence.

What makes these accomplishments especially meaningful is that dance is not sanctioned by UIL. These students actively pursue competitive opportunities, dedicating evenings and weekends to refining their routines. They choose to work harder. They choose to grow. They choose excellence.

When Bryan Adams students step onto the floor, they carry more than choreography; they carry the pride of their school and the legacy of D3. Younger students watch them perform and see what is possible. Families and community members see representation at its best. Competitors across the state take notice.

This is how excellence becomes tradition.

Performance by performance, year by year, these students are strengthening a culture that says hard work matters, teamwork wins, and District 3 stands tall. The trophies are symbols of success, but the real victory is the confidence, leadership and resilience these dancers build along the way.

Programs like the Belles and DanceVersity are just one example of the opportunities available to students at Bryan Adams and other schools across District 3. To learn more, families are invited to attend Dallas ISD’s More Choice Expo — one of the largest school fairs in North Texas — where they can explore everything our district has to offer. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the Automobile Building in Fair Park.

I encourage everyone to attend, enjoy the interactive activities, and learn more about how our campuses are building pathways to excellence. To learn more, visit DallasISD.org/MoreChoice.
