LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Via email:
How can I take this fellow, Warren Black (Vol. 15, No. 41 — “The Kings of Turkey Legs reign over Fair”) seriously when he says in his lead sentence of his State Fair piece, “There would be no argument that BBQ is the official food of Texas”?
Frank X. Tolbert championed the cause of a “bowl of red” (chile con carne) as the official dish of Texas. The Texas Legislature agreed and made it such, in 1977. (47 years ago).
Furthermore, no form of BBQ or barbecue is even mentioned as being an official food of Texas!

Shoddy homework, Mr. Black!
Sincerely yours,
Paul Williams
Which food is really the official food of Texas?
