In Memoriam — Billie Jo White Cozby

July 11, 1927 – October 25, 2023

Billie Jo Cozby, a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, at age 96, at LeReve Rehabilitation & Memory Care in Dallas, Texas.

Billie moved to East Dallas at the age of 14 with her mother Polly White from Wichita Falls, Texas in 1942. She enrolled in Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated in January 1944.

She met her future husband, Jack Cozby at Woodrow and they were married on August 4, 1944, and spent 68 years together in the same house they purchased in 1950, until his passing in 2012.

Billie and Jack had three children: Anita S. Cozby Mobley, Lewisville, Texas; Pamela L. Cozby, Dallas, Texas and Col. Jack (Jay) M. Cozby, Jr., who preceded her in death in March 2007.

Billie had four grandchildren: Melissa Mobley Howell, Austin, Texas; William (Will) K. Mobley, Frisco, Texas; Andrew Cozby, Redmond, Wash.; and Joshua Cozby, Charlottesville, Va.

She had three great grandchildren: Graham Howell, Pflugerville, Texas; Ben Howell, Austin, Texas; and step great grandson Kemper Dalton, Frisco, Texas.

Son-in-law Kent Mobley of Lewisville, Texas, preceded her in death in 2021. She had a grand-son-in-law, Mark Howell of Austin, Texas; a granddaughter-in-law, Kourtne Dalton-Mobley of Frisco, Texas and a great granddaughter-in-law, Gabrielle Howell of Pflugerville, Texas.

Billie is survived by her brother-in-law and wife, Sam and Harriett Cozby, nephews Sam Cozby, Jr. and Bryan Cozby of Dallas, Texas, great nephew and niece Christopher Cozby and Marissa Cozby, all of Dallas, Texas; two nieces: Beverly White of Phoenix, Ariz. and Bobbie Scott and son, Shawn Scott of Belfair, Wash.; and James Paul Collinsworth of Oregon, a cousin.

Her parents, Polly White Barnes and Walter Lee White, preceded her in death in 2000 and 1950. Her brother, Robert L. White, also preceded her in death.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Restland Cemetery — The Wildwood Chapel. Burial will be in the family plot at Garden of the Gospels. A 9 a.m. visitation will be provided that day before the 10 a.m. service.

If friends and family wish to send flowers to be left at the grave side, her family recommends Rembrandt Florist, which is located at Restland. 

If donations in her memory would be a choice, Billie’s favorite charities were St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Shiner’s Children’s Hospital.
