Long-time Dallas resident Johnny Chamness passed away on October 13, 2023. Johnny was born in 1944 to parents Johnnie and Opal Chamness. He was raised near Pleasant Grove and attended Rylie schools. Johnny enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War and spent four years serving on the USS Rupertus.
After his service, Johnny returned to Dallas and became a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration contractor. He began his long career working for local companies and later continued with his own company, Chamness Services. Johnny was known as a very hard working and dedicated repairman. Before his long workdays began, he enjoyed having early morning coffee with his buddies at Barbec’s and Dallas Diner.
Johnny and former wife Linda were blessed with daughter Jonnie Lauren (JL) Chamness and granddaughter Eliza Almanza. Other survivors include brother Anthony and sister-in-law Janet Chamness. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Everett Wagstaff and brother James Chamness.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on November 20 in the Laurel Garden section of Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
