Summer is finally here, which means back-to-school season is just around the corner. The Lochwood Branch Library have kicked off their fifth annual School Supply Drive and are preparing for the second annual Back-to-School Community Fair. However, neither of these events can succeed without the support of the community.

During the past four summers, with the support of library patrons and community partners, the library has collected and distributed much needed school supplies to more than 400 local students. However, as of July 2024 an estimated 31 percent of parents in the United States and an estimated 86 percent of students in the local community struggle to afford necessary school supplies, and prices have only climbed since then. The goal is to help combat these statistics by getting all the supplies needed for the upcoming school year into the hands of as many of the community’s students and families as possible.
Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at the Lochwood Branch Library (11221 Lochwood Blvd.) through July 29 and will be distributed to as many students as possible on August 1 at the Back-to-School Community Fair.
