Nature has the Rx

It looked like a little baboon’s bottom sticking up in the air, all red and raw. What was a human mother to do? My own mother suggested cod liver oil. What? Cod liver oil? It turns out it is the main ingredient in Desitin, the diaper rash cream. How in the world someone figured out that the oil from a cod fish’s liver would help relieve severe diaper rash is beyond my comprehension. But they did. And it worked like a miracle drug.

I’ve discovered other amazing products throughout my years on earth that Mother Nature alone created. Epsom salt is one of them. Magnesium Sulfate U.S.P. soothes aches and pains and helps relieve muscle tensions. A 20-minute soak in a hot Epsom salt bath leaves a person feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is another family favorite in our house. I mix a couple of teaspoons of ACV with every other glass of water I drink. It helps flush my system of toxins and reduces stomach bloating. I also soak in hot ACV baths once a week to detox my skin and stimulate blood flow throughout my body.

But my new favorite remedy from nature is called Calms. I was kind of stressing about travelling a few months ago. Not because we were flying, but because my sister would be with us. I love my sister with all my heart, but she and I have a way of really getting on each other’s nerves sometimes, as only family members can do.

I was seeking a stronger, pharmaceutical remedy to my anticipated anxiety, which wouldn’t knock me out like Dramamine does. My sister, who is also a doctor, suggested Calms Forte. Once, again — What?

Calms is a homeopathic, non-habit forming tablet you take for natural relief of anxiousness, nervousness and irritability. I tried it and it worked like a charm. Now we always have it on hand in our home.

These days, before we head to the pharmacy to spend loads of money on prescription drugs, we check with Mother Nature first. She often has the right answers, if we just look.

Of course, for serious medical issues, you should consult your physician. This human mother knows Mother Nature’s limits.
