New light to deter street racing

City workers installed new traffic signals on Mockingbird Lane near White Rock Lake on Monday afternoon. The long stretch of open road between Williamson Rd. and N. Buckner Blvd. now has a light at the intersection of Greentree Ln. The goal of the new traffic device is to reduce speeds in the neighborhood and combat street racing. In December of 2019, Dallas Police Officer Joseph George lost control of his car and was killed on that stretch of Mockingbird. He was believed to be racing another car, and travelling much faster than the posted limit of 40-mph. George was not on duty at the time. Investigators still have not located the other vehicle involved.                    — Nancy Black
