Powerhouse returns for gallery opening

Former East Dallas Chamber of Commerce Chamber Board Member Denise Aver-Phillips was in town this past week for a special dedication. Avers-Phillips and her husband, Steven, gifted the new Avers-Phillips Art Gallery to The Vista on the CC Young campus. Avers is the former vice president of community outreach for the senior living community. She was instrumental in launching many community projects throughout the years, which benefited both the CC Young campus and the surrounding neighborhoods in East Dallas. Just prior to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aver-Phillips moved to northern California. At the opening reception, both expressed their excitement at being back in Dallas for the first art show in the new space. The Aver-Phillips Art Gallery will rotate artwork every month between another gallery on the CC Young campus. — Nancy Black
