Replanting has begun!

Replanting work began this week at the Old Fish Hatchery at White Rock Lake. In coordination with Dallas Park & Recreation, Oncor has partnered with the Texas Discovery Gardens to facilitate the replanting of the right of way within the Old Fish Hatchery (OFH). The work will include treating or removing any invasive species that have regrown in the area as well as general clean up necessary before planting and seeding begins. Additionally, Dallas Park & Recreation is creating a long-term agreement with Oncor to collaborate on the management of the area in the right of way, which will require annual onsite inspections by both groups in an effort to avoid the need for any future clearing. The OFH friends group will oversee continued regrowth and maintenance of the Old Fish Hatchery. Another friend’s group has been established to assist with volunteer efforts as well as advocacy for this important nature area. They are concerned with all proposals to pave, develop or otherwise compromise White Rock Lake. If citizens are interested in joining or have any questions about this project, contact Maria Hasbany, District 9 Park Board Representative at [email protected]. — Kathryn Bazan
