While Reunion Tower is known for the vibrant light shows that illuminate the Dallas skyline, this month it will, once again, dim its lights for a different purpose. From now through October 29, Reunion Tower will join the Texas Conservation Alliance in supporting bird migration efforts by reducing light pollution each night. Each fall and spring, nearly two billion birds travel across Texas, one of the world’s largest migratory paths. Many fly at night and can be disoriented by bright city lights, which increases the risk of collisions. By dimming its lights, Reunion Tower helps create a safer journey for these birds as they pass through North Texas. — Britt Carman
