Rhythmic drive inspires performers

Audiences will be exhilarated by the varied tango music and tango dance on display in Orchestra of New Spain’s (ONS) annual production at Moody performance Hall on February 23. A change from flamenco, this coming together of the Austin-based Atlas Tango Project (ATP) with their dance collaborators in Denver — Parasol Arts, promotes professional music, dance and theater productions taking inspiration from the art of Argentine Tango. Patrons will have a chance to hear original compositions by the five-member band led by James Anderson, as they accompany Parasol Arts’ composition of ballet/tango in “Angels and Devils.” Comparing Piazzolla’s compositions with a modern classical composer closer to home, ONS invited the internationally recognized Robert Xavier Rodriguez to present a piece “Tango di Tango” drawn from his larger Tango opera. Common to both composers is a rhythmic drive, bordering on obsessive. Moody Performance Hall is located at 2520 Flora St., Dallas.
