Alex Sanger Preparatory is launching a new Book Buddy and Math Mentor Program to help K-2 students with reading and math. Through this program, teachers will identify students, and volunteers will work one-on-one with their assigned student for 30 minutes on a weekly basis throughout the school year. The students’ class schedules will dictate when reading/math time needs to occur, but the times available will be during school hours. For this program, volunteers are required to attend in-person training prior to starting. The school is holding a training session on October 7 from 9-9:30 a.m. at Sanger. If volunteers cannot attend on this date, the school may be able to arrange another date. There are also have a variety of volunteer opportunities at the school that don’t involve working with students, including helping in the office, library or cafeteria; bagging food items with the school’s partner Brighter Bites, which are distributed at no cost to enrolled Sanger families, and/or helping with campus beautification efforts. Volunteers do not need to be parents or family members of Sanger students, but they do need to submit a to a background check. The school is located at 8410 San Leandro Dr. in Dallas.
