Shark Week features Texas relatives

Shark Week 2026 kicks off on the Discovery Channel on Sunday, July 26, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 1. For the first time, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science will be featured during the Tuesday, July 28 premiere of Jurassic Sharks at 7 p.m. central. The segment features the Museum’s Dr. Ron Tykoski, vice president of science and curator of vertebrate paleontology, talking about big-for-their-day extinct varieties of sharks and shark relatives, using a number of Perot Museum specimens, mostly from Texas.

To celebrate this iconic week, the Perot Museum is hosting a weeklong, family-friendly Shark Week celebration featuring themed activities and hands-on programs, delicious food and drinks, and plenty of opportunities to explore the Museum. From Sunday, July 26 through Saturday, Aug. 1 experiment in the Bio Lab learning how stressful situations impact sharks, test engineering skills building a shark proof boat, dine on Coral Reef Burgers and SharkBite Slushies in the Museum Café, and on Tuesday, July 28 meet Dr. Ron to learn more about prehistoric sharks. 

The July 30 Thursdays on Tap, the Museum’s popular event designed exclusively for visitors 21 and older, will feature “Shark After Dark” ocean themed cocktails including Great White Margaritas. 

 In the premiere of Jurassic Sharks revolutionary CGI resurrects the ocean’s most bizarre Jurassic sharks, bringing them to life like never before.
