All are welcome to attend an age-old Anglican and Episcopalian tradition of Evensong and the Burning of the Greens on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 5 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 848 Harter Road in East Dallas. The evening kicks off at 5 p.m. with Evensong, a beautiful and prayerful service in the church featuring the celebrated St. John’s Choir. Then, at 5:30 p.m., join the congregation for the Burning of the Greens in the church parking lot. Bring Christmas trees, wreaths and other greenery and leave them in the parking lot either Sunday morning or beginning at 4:30 p.m. The St. John’s Men’s Camping Group will serve sausages on a stick, snacks and festive beverages. The group also oversees the fire. Glowsticks will be provided for children who attend. This event is a way to mark the traditional end of the Christmas season, or Twelfth Night, and the beginning of Epiphany. — Andy Morgan
