The program, which begins this fall, offers middle school students the opportunity to experience competitive rowing in a supportive team environment. Practice sessions are scheduled twice weekly for seventh graders and three times weekly for eighth graders, with all sessions running from 4:45-6:45 p.m.

“Rowing is an incredible sport that teaches discipline, teamwork and perseverance while providing an excellent full-body workout,’ said Coach Flo Elkins. “We’re looking for students who are ready to challenge themselves and discover something completely new.”

The program structure accommodates different grade levels with tailored schedules. Seventh grade boys and girls will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays, while eighth grade teams will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This progression allows younger students to ease into the sport while giving older participants more intensive training opportunities.

Beyond physical fitness, the rowing program emphasizes character development and community building. Students will learn proper technique, water safety and boat handling while developing the mental toughness that makes rowing unique among sports.

“What makes rowing special is how it combines individual excellence with team success,” explained a team representative. “Every stroke matters, and students quickly learn how their effort directly impacts the entire crew.”

The program serves as an ideal foundation for students interested in continuing rowing at the high school level. Dallas United Crew has a proven track record of winning at the highest level and helping athletes continue their rowing journey in college, some with scholarships.

Students interested in joining should have basic swimming skills and a willingness to learn. No prior rowing experience is necessary, and equipment will be provided during the learning phase.
