Turning grief into glory

Hello,

Not sure if this story would be of interest to you, however, I thought it might be an inspiration for others in the community to take something ugly and transform it into something beautiful.

We are longtime residents of the White Rock Lake area and purchased a “fixer upper” home in Casa Linda 10 years ago. It backed up to a very overgrown and unkept easement/railroad track. Over the years we have lovingly updated our yard and home.

Last year, my husband lost his father to cancer. During and after that loss, he threw himself into a passion project that has morphed into a neighborhood beautification initiative that I think others might appreciate. He spends most weekends clearing/tending all of the land behind our home and the properties of nearby neighbors and has cultivated and planted thousands upon thousands of wildflower seeds.

The wildflower garden now stretches across the back easement of several homes and hosts monarchs, hummingbirds and bees.

We see wildlife every night: bunnies, coyotes, bobcats, etc. and many that use the tracks as a walking trail stop to enjoy the garden. The sunsets are truly incredible.

I thought it was a beautiful representation of taking your grief, something difficult and overwhelming, and finding a way to turn it into a peaceful, magical space. He hopes to continue the expansion all the way to Casa Linda Park.

Thanks for listening! I attached some photos of the wildflower alley.
