Fund created to help fallen officer’s family

From DPD Staff Reports

Officer Mitchell Penton of the Dallas Police Department was struck by a drunk driver and killed during the early morning hours of February 13. Penton was on duty, providing security for an accident scene when his patrol vehicle was struck. The impact of the crash caused Officer Penton’s vehicle to hit him. Officer Penton was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses of the crash said that the officer’s emergency lights were on, and the driver of the Kia was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter on a Police Officer as well as Intoxication Assault due to the fact there was a passenger in his car. Officer Penton had been with the Dallas Police Department since Feb. 6, 2019. He was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

A Candlelight Vigil was held for Penton, Badge #11654, on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Northeast Patrol Division. A GoFundMe page has also been established in honor of Officer Penton. He leaves behind his wife, Noel, who is expecting their first child together, as well as his stepson, Cashton. He is survived by his father and mother, Tim and Kathy, sister Sydney, and brother Garrett. Penton will always be remembered for his infectious smile and kind soul. The GoFundMe page was established by friends of the family to help start a fund for anything the family may need through the coming years. Please give to help protect the Penton family, just as Officer Mitchell Penton did for the City of Dallas during his brief tour, which was cut short by this tragedy.
