Salon features local artists in new show

A new year brings new ways to support local artists at Salons by JC Dallas – Casa Linda Plaza. The Salons just kicked off their 2020 Winter Art Exhibition featuring two local East Dallas artists, Ruda Anderson and Laurie McClurg. The exhibition opened January 14 and features more than 50 original works of art.

Ruda Anderson creates intriguing collage works by combining hand-painted and antique fabrics with acrylic paints.

Visual storyteller Laurie McClurg combines her love for word, wit and storytelling with her vast collection of found objects to create her works. Each piece of art, including their imaginative titles, brings a whimsical and symbolic meaning to little moments in life. You won’t want to miss Laurie’s work inspired by the famous White Rock Lake ghost story entitled, “The Lady of the Lake: The Blue Myth.”

Ruda Anderson creates intriguing collage works by combining hand-painted and antique fabrics with acrylic paints. She follows the colors and the motion of a particular piece of fabric and recreates that feeling in the paint application to the canvas. Ruda explains: “It is essentially putting together the pieces of a puzzle, thus creating a whole new dynamic in the finished work. The tension between the paint and the fabric is essential for the new image to become a completed more dynamic version of the combination.”

The Salons also feature the intricate Zentangle works by artist in residence, Jay Max Brewer. All art is available for purchase and can be seen during the Salons opening hours, Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The community is invited to attend the Artist Reception on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 2-5 p.m. Valentine’s Day themed art and art cards will be available during the reception.

The exhibitions will continue through 2020. Salons by JC owner Carol Westlund and East Dallas-based artist Andrea Lamarsaude wanted a way to bring art to the community. Working with Salons by JC Manager Charlotte Deaton and artist Kathy Baker Mackey, they have created a rotating gallery at the Salons to showcase the many artists in the East Dallas and White Rock Lake area.
