Plunkett honored for lifetime service

Benny C. Plunkett has been serving this community since he was 23 years old, first in service to his country with his military duty in Vietnam. Born in 1945, Plunkett was raised as a Master Mason on Aug. 22, 1972 at 26 years of age. For 50 years he has been a stalwart member of the masonic lodge, serving as presiding officer, or “master of the lodge,” in both Edwin J. Kiest Masonic Lodge #1310 on Hermosa Avenue and Roy Stanley Masonic Lodge #1367 on Ferguson Road. On Aug. 30, Plunkett received his 50-year member service pin, which is a testament to his life of service to this community and to the Masonic Order. There were more than 90 people in attendance and hardly room to stand as Plunkett received this honor from the Grand Master of Texas. He has donated countless hours to this community and helping men and women in their quest to be better members of this community. Benny’s grandson proudly pinned a 50-year pin on his grandfather’s lapel. The many friends and dignitaries gathered were touched by Plunkett’s gratitude that so many would come out to honor him, though it was no surprise to any in attendance since Plunkett has been a steadfast worker and supporter of all masonic organizations and their goal of building better individuals and building a better community. — Ronnie Wise
