In a remarkable display of skill, teamwork and determination, the Dallas United Crew (DUC) rowing club etched its name into numerous trophies at the Central Regional Championships held in Oklahoma City.
Competing against the finest teams from Texas, Arkansas, Colorado and Oklahoma, DUC achieved a historic trifecta by winning the overall points trophy, the men’s points trophy and the women’s points trophy for the first time in the program’s storied history.
The Central Regional Championships, a prestigious event known for its intense competition, serves as a crucial qualifying regatta for the National Championship slated for this June in Sarasota, Fla. With the stakes higher than ever, DUC’s athletes rose to the occasion, securing an impressive 18 bids to send boats to compete against the nation’s elite.
Senior Jack Halverson, who is set to row at Division 1 Santa Clara University, shared his thoughts on the team’s unprecedented success, saying: “The team’s growth over my tenure has been incredible. Never would I have thought we’d sweep the team points trophies, but it’s a reflection of how deep we are and how strong our underclassmen are. The future is so bright for our club, but we’re not done just yet! Time to get back to training and gear up for the natty!”
This victory is not just a testament to the athletes’ hard work and dedication but also highlights the strategic coaching and supportive community that backs DUC. DUC has a shared vision of excellence that pulses throughout the program’s core.
The club’s historic performance at the Central Regional Championships has set the stage for what promises to be an exciting and competitive National Championship in Sarasota. With 18 boats qualifying, DUC has firmly positioned itself as a powerhouse in the rowing community, and eyes will be on them as they prepare to take on the best rowers in the country.
The road to the National Championship promises to be challenging, but with their recent victories fueling their ambition the team is ready for the task. Under the guidance of experienced coaches and with the support of their teammates, DUC’s athletes will continue to push themselves to achieve new heights and make their mark on the rowing world.
