Foundation helps nonprofits make impact

North Texas Giving Day

By Lexi McCarthy

North Texas Giving Day 2025 is less than a month away, and Communities Foundations of Texas and White Rock Lake Weekly are returning with weekly features on nonprofits that serve the White Rock Lake area.

In 2024, North Texas Giving Day connected 3,200 local nonprofits with givers, raising more than $70 million. This local generosity movement has grown to become the largest regional giving event in the nation, and it all centers around giving from the heart.

There are more than 3,500 verified, local nonprofits participating this year — the most in Giving Day’s history — representing more than 25 cause areas. Communities Foundation of Texas, sponsors and generous givers cover all transaction and technology fees during North Texas Giving Day, so 100 percent of donations go directly to nonprofits.

This year’s North Texas Giving Day culminates on Thursday, Sept. 18. Giving through the website, NorthTexasGivingDay.org, opens on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Last year, we featured Dallas 24 Hour Club, The Human Impact, Jubilee and Texas Trees Foundation as part of our North Texas Giving Day spotlight series.

This year, Dallas 24 Hour Club’s goal is to raise $70,000, and they’ll be hosting a Steak Night Fundraiser with live music on Saturday, Sept. 6. Proceeds will support their efforts to give their clients a brand-new start through transitional living, support services and essential life skills.

The Human Impact’s goal is to raise $100,000 in support of the chronically homeless.

Jubilee Park & Community Center’s goal is to raise $100,000 to support comprehensive community revitalization and enrichment in Southeast Dallas.

Texas Trees Foundation hopes to raise $35,000 to improve the health of cities and people through the transformative power of trees.

White Rock Lake Conservancy has been participating in North Texas Giving Day for more than a decade, and they raised more than $25,000 last year through Giving Day.

The mission of the Conservancy is to enhance the identity, beauty and safety of White Rock Lake Park in partnership with Dallas Park and Recreation and the surrounding community. The Conservancy supports implementation of the Dallas’ White Rock Lake Master Plan through major fundraising initiatives and development expertise to meet significant park needs.

Year after year, North Texas Giving Day has introduced their goal to continually improve White Rock Lake Park.

“North Texas Giving Day has been our second largest fundraiser of the year for the last 10 years. We’ve gone from raising $5,210 the first year we participated from 37 donors to $40,309 from 150 donors last year. This has helped us gain new donors and financial assistance in completing several projects over the years,” said Jennifer Hoesterey, executive director of White Rock Lake Conservancy.

The Conservancy will be hosting a happy hour and networking event on September 18, the evening of North Texas Giving Day. Attendees can join to learn more about the current playground project that will complete the “Park within the Park” at the Stone Tables Picnic Area.
