New this year the Swiss Avenue Historic District Home Tour is offering a truly magical way to honor and celebrate your mothers and grandmothers in royal style. This year the first historic district in Dallas is offering two seatings of a “Royal Tea experience” on Mother’s Day, May 10. The Royal Tea will take place in the elegant and historic Aldredge House and will be presented by Darren McGrady the former Buckingham Palace personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II and later to Princess Diana. During his more than a decade tenure at Buckingham Palace McGrady also fed numerous heads of state including five United States Presidents. The reservation only event is limited to 60 lucky participants at each seating with the first seating at 10:30 a.m. and the second seating at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets to the Royal Tea include home tour tickets that provide entrance to all seven historic tour homes and the historic Munger Place Church. Visitors will be able to tour some homes that are being included as part of the tour for the first time in the tours 51-year history and others that have been thoughtfully and artfully remodeled since last included as part of the tour. The tour tickets are good either day of the event. It is a rare opportunity to step inside some of the neighborhood’s most beautiful and historically significant residences.
Beyond the homes themselves, the weekend offers a lively neighborhood festival atmosphere. Guests can enjoy free live music by top performers in the park, a curated vendor market, complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides, free shuttle buses, a dedicated children’s activity area, a new walking tour with information on additional houses, refreshments and more.
The Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour has become one of Dallas’ signature spring events, drawing thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the neighborhood’s architectural heritage and vibrant community spirit.
Tickets and additional information for both the Royal Tea and the Home Tour are available online at SAHD.org.
