Nearly 3,600 nonprofits are participating in Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day this year, and among them is The Love Pit Rescue. The Love Pit Rescue is honoring its 10th anniversary this Giving Day by setting a goal of $100,000 to continue transforming the lives of dogs in need of their support.

Founded in 2015, The Love Pit Rescue is a foster-based rescue dedicated to saving bully breeds. Their rescue work is inspired by a story of love and hope that continues to drive their mission today. The nonprofit’s owner, Aften, was on her way to dinner when she saw a stray pit bull, later named Sweet Pea, running into traffic as cars dodged around her and didn’t stop. Aften quickly pulled over and tended to Sweet Pea, who was injured and showed signs of neglect.
On the way to the vet, Aften posted a picture of Sweet Pea to an Instagram account she started to spotlight her foster dogs called @TheLovePit. The post went viral within 24 hours, and Sweet Pea received unwavering support from people online who donated to cover her medical care costs and sent messages of love.
From that moment, The Love Pit grew from an Instagram account into a nonprofit dedicated to giving bully breeds a second chance through rescue, rehabilitation, training, education and advocacy efforts.
The Love Pit Rescue has saved thousands of bully breeds, keeping Sweet Pea’s legacy alive during every rescue.

“We look forward to this day each and every year as it truly is the giving catapult,” said Allison Biel, managing director of Development & Advocacy. “The funds we raise on North Texas Giving Day are pivotal to our success and continue to lead us into the years ahead.”
North Texas Giving Day helps The Love Pit Rescue raise critical funds to rescue vulnerable and at-risk dogs while also powering their community support programs, which provide dog owners and finders the resources they need to take care of their furry friends and place them in loving homes. Giving Day has also increased awareness of the organization, resulting in more adoptions of bully-breed dogs and keeping them out of overcrowded shelters.
