Start the New Year with a laugh at Backdoor Comedy’s New Year’s Eve Comedy Celebration with Paul Varghese & Friends on Friday, Dec. 31. The club’s annual comedy event, now in its 15th year, will take place at Backdoor’s new digs in Richardson. The club will present two shows, one at 8 p.m. and one at 10:30 p.m. The popular event has become a DFW tradition and is still THE hot ticket for North Texas NYE celebrations.

Back by popular demand is headliner Paul Varghese from Comedy Central and Showtime. Paul performs in comedy clubs around the country. He has a new comedy special premiering in 2022 plus a new album coming out next summer. Also appearing is EMMY Award winner and Funniest Comic in Texas (FCIT) champion, comedienne/filmmaker Linda Stogner plus other Backdoor Comedy favorites. Tickets are $35 for the 8 p.m. show and $50 for the 10:30 p.m show; the late show includes New Year’s countdown, party favors, a champagne toast at midnight, blackeyed peas and cornbread after midnight and a ticket to a future show.
Varghese, one of the hottest comics in the country as well as a hometown favorite, has appeared on Comedy Central, NBC and Showtime. He is the 2017 winner of the Trial By Laughter Competition and will release a new album next year. The former FCIT champ was the winner of the 2012 Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, has opened for Dave Chappelle at House of Blues, and has appeared on Comedy Central’s “Gabriel Iglesias Presents Standup Revolution,” Showtime’s “Russell Peters Presents” and NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”
EMMY Award winner and 2014 champion of the Funniest Comic in Texas Competition, Linda Stogner, has a Dry Bar special coming out next year.
She headlines the “Four Funny Females Comedy Tour,” now in its 15th season. She was a semi-finalist at the prestigious Seattle International Comedy Competition and the Boston Comedy Festival. She was a performer on “Joan River’s Funniest Women Comedy Special” on CBS and was a finalist in the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.
Other Backdoor favorites performing include Ryan Perrio from “Laughs” on FOX. Selected “Best Comedy Club” by D Magazine and Dallas Observer, The Backdoor is located at 940 E.
