Designers create houses to benefit CASA

By Roseanne Lewis

Dallas CASA’s signature event, Parade of Playhouses, will be returning to NorthPark Center for the 27th annual event on July 9-25.

Balfour Beatty/Kimley-Horn/Harmon Inc. created the “Harvest House” for the 2020 Parade of Playhouses.

The event features custom-built children’s playhouses on display in the hallways of NorthPark Center and available to win by raffle. The event brings attention to the stories of children who’ve experienced abuse or neglect and are living in the protective care of the state.

Presenting sponsor is Crest Cadillac/INFINITI/Volvo, and parade grand marshal is local real estate development and investment firm KDC. All proceeds from the event benefit the children served by Dallas CASA. Local designers, organizations and builders donate the unique playhouses for the event. Details for a safe event during the ongoing pandemic are still being worked out, but many architects and builders from prior years are planning to return, including Brasfield & Gorrie LLC, Butscher Construction, LRO Residential and more. At least one playhouse will go on display early, beginning June 25. More details will be released closer to the event.

Past playhouse designs have included a rocket ship, a castle, an elephant, a fishing lodge, a garage and a Dallas Mavericks fold-out basketball court playhouse.
