Dallas United Crew (DUC) wrapped up their spring regatta season at the USRowing Central Regional Championships with three DUC boats and 23 athletes qualifying to represent Dallas and the region in the upcoming USRowing Youth National Championship next month in Sarasota, Fla. Two crews defended their regional championship titles and can claim fastest in the Central Region for the second year in a row. DUC earned an additional four silver medals and three bronze medals, bringing the total number of boats receiving medals to nine, representing 68 athletes. The event was held in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the US Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.
“We’re excited to be sending crews to nationals for the fifth straight year,” said Program Director Steve Perry. “After months of training, it comes down to this one event. Each race lasts between 6.5 to 7.5 minutes. With teamwork and commitment, we had two crews clinch a repeat as regional champions. We are proud of that accomplishment.”
This was the third regional championship for the Women’s Varsity 8. This year, they led the pack by an incredible 18 seconds. DUC is making a name for itself in a sport that’s traditionally dominated by schools on the east and west coast.
Throughout the two days of racing, DUC ranked third in overall points out of 18 teams for a third consecutive year. Congratulations to all the DUC athletes.
