Educators rewarded for hard work

By Deborah Brown

Each year, the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce (GEDCC) recognizes the top educators in East Dallas schools, K-12, who are providing outstanding education for their respective students. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and progressive programs that are serving to improve and promote learning.

The awards are given to public and private elementary, middle and high schools in the East Dallas area. This is the 13th year the GEDCC has sponsored Teacher of the Year Awards.

The six Teacher of the Year Award winners were chosen from numerous nominations. The 2024 winners include:

• Beatriz Quiroz, Edwin J. Kiest Elementary

• Monica Robinson, Robert T. Hill Middle School

• Wenyun Wang, Emmett J. Conrad High School

• Kathy Shannon, Zion Lutheran School

• Laura Johnson, Lakehill Preparatory School

• Robert Cantu, Dallas Academy.

“We are delighted to honor these excellent teachers for their outstanding commitment to our students and our future,” Dan Micciche, Dallas ISD Trustee District 3, said. The winners were recognized at a cocktail reception on Wednesday, April 17 at St. John’s Episcopal School. Each awardee received $250 along with an award plaque and their school also received $250.
