One of these participating nonprofits, nestled in East Dallas, is Ferguson Road Initiative (FRI). FRI is on a mission to engage and empower a community of advocates working to advance safe, beautiful and prosperous neighborhoods.
Since 1998, FRI has collaborated with residents to improve public safety, reduce crime and expand access to social services.
The organization champions equitable, attainable housing and strives to establish neighborhoods that are both just and sustainable, ensuring more families can call Far East Dallas home.
This year marks a historic milestone for the Ferguson Road Initiative.
For the first time, 100 percent of board and staff members are participating in the organization’s special “North Texas Giving Day Challenge Campaign.”
“Their unwavering commitment sends a powerful message — before we ask our community to give, we first give ourselves,” says Vikki Martin, executive director. “This unity of purpose not only reinforces our credibility with donors, funders and members, but it also affirms our deep belief in FRI’s mission.”
FRI’s dedicated team — comprised of passionate community members — advocates for improved amenities such as libraries, parks, trails and recreation centers.
The organization also hosts numerous events throughout the year, including a litter cleanup and an annual blood drive. For 20 years, FRI has provided free income tax filing for low-income families through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Another key focus has been establishing the “Far East Dallas Public Improvement District” (FEDPID). By launching FEDPID, Ferguson Road Initiative is significantly expanding the safety and beautification efforts it began more than 25 years ago. FEDPID will serve as a long-term funding source for the community-building efforts of FRI.
If you live in Far East Dallas, or have even just visited, you’ve likely enjoyed a few beloved spots supported by FRI, including White Rock Hills Library, White Rock Hills Park, the Pegasus Sculpture off Ferguson Road and the Lakeland Hills Skatepark & Pavilion, among others.
“Our neighborhoods are strong and vital, and every gift made for North Texas Giving Day directly supports the bright future we’re building together,” says Vikki.
On North Texas Giving Day, every gift, no matter the size, makes a lasting impact on FRI.
