The Dallas Police Department (DPD) and OfferUp have created the city’s first Community MeetUp Spot. This area, located at 1999 E. Camp Wisdom Road, is designed to create a safe space for buyers and sellers from online and mobile marketplaces. Transactions can now be completed in a surveilled, well-lit and monitored environment.
This initiative is meant to increase public awareness about the simple measures that can be taken to encourage safer in-person transactions. OfferUp partnered with the DPD to install the Community MeetUp Spots, signage and cameras.
In addition to these Community MeetUp Spots, OfferUp has provided additional free training to detectives from DPD. The training includes discussing best practices and available tools on how officers can work closely with OfferUp to detect and deter criminal activity stemming from online transactions. — City of Dallas Staff Reports
