Recital to raise funds for summer camps

By Shelia Huffman

Tinashe McGowan will perform a piano recital Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m. at Central Christian Church in Dallas.

This gifted young musician has auditioned and been accepted to attend the Interlochen Arts Summer Camp at the famous Interlochen Center for the Arts. Located in northern Michigan, Interlochen Arts Camp offers summer arts programs for grades 3-12. Each summer, more than 2,500 students attend Interlochen to study music, visual arts, theatre, film, dance and creative writing.

The students will have the opportunity to learn and perform with young musicians from all over the world, led by a distinguished faculty and renowned conductors. During their time at the camp, they grow as musicians and as artists, as they participate in and enjoy a summer of memorable performances.

Music students perform in the 3,900-seat Kresge Auditorium, the 950-seat Corson Auditorium, Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall, the historic Interlochen Bowl and the new open-air Upton Morley Pavilion.

The camp is a wonderful opportunity for Tinashe. After hearing him play everyone is amazed and duly impressed with his talent. You will be, too.

Join Central for an afternoon of Bach, Mozart and popular classics such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

There is no charge for the recital performance. However, one may donate to a love offering to help with the cost of the summer camp. Come, bring your friends and if you have budding pianists in your household, be sure to include them in this excellent Sunday afternoon music event. Central is located at 4711 Westside Dr. just off Mockingbird Lane.
